Open Source Guitars

Guitaristic ensemble work, intermediality and artistic research

Open Source Guitars, which were founded in 2008 as an ensemble at the Trossingen University of Music, practice an innovative approach to guitar ensemble work with the aim of expanding the repertoire, developing a new sound language and promoting networking with adjacent art forms.

Over the years, a way of working has developed that was to become trend-setting and identity-building for the musicians of Open Source Guitars: The work as a collective with individual responsibility of all members, the use of the most modern digital technology, the experimental extension of the instrumental concept "guitar", the encounter with other art forms and their representatives, and the questioning of traditional stage and concert staging.

In addition to "Moving Sounds", the memorable performances of Open Source Guitars include the multimedia production of "HOMENAJE - A Homage to Manuel De Falla", the new setting of the silent film classic "Nosferatu", the stage music for the inclusion project "Woyzeck" or the CD "Rephrase" (2015) at Bayer Records. In 2012, Open Source Guitars was the only music ensemble to be included in the highly endowed "Innovations- und Qualitätsfonds" (IQF) for excellent projects at universities and colleges in Baden-Württemberg.
